The Fall 2011 Schedule

We again welcome you all to the start of another semester at the MKC with our first practice beginning Wednesday, September 7th (7PM-9PM) at the University of Toronto Mississauga in the Dance Studio and Friday, September 9th (8:30PM - 10:30PM) at the Ontario Centre for Classical Sport at 3750B Laird Road, Unit 13-14. Please check out our membership and schedule pages for details of locations etc, maps etc.

 

New Members Welcome!

Ever thought of giving kendo a try? Well, come on out and see for yourself! We are accepting new members during Septermber, and welcome you to come out at 7pm on Wednesdays or 8:30 pm on Fridays in something you're ready to work out in (T-shirt and sweats are perfect). Congratulations to Kimura Sensei and the TKC for their 30th Anniversary!

July 30th & 31st saw the celebration of the Toronto Kendo Club's 30th Anniversary. We were priviledged to have a seminar in honour of the momentous occasion led by Masahi Chiba Sensei, Hachidan Hanshi, and featured some of the best kendo anywhere with top ranked sensei from around the world joining us. Check out some photos of the event, and congratulations again to Kimura-Sensei and the TKC!

 

Special Keiko July 29th and the TKC 30th Anniversary

A special keiko will be held at OCCS on Friday, July 29th. We will be joined by Masahi Chiba sensei - 8th Dan Hanshi - who is the seminar lead for the TKC's 30th Anniversary seminar. This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity for our dojo to practice with one of the best kendoka in the world. Please come out to keiko and show Chiba sensei how strong our kendo and enthuiasm is!

 

Practice Scheudle Update & the Spring Schedule

As exams begin on April 7th at UTM, our last mid-week practice will be April 6th. We resume again at UTM in early May on May 11th (7-9pm). Our practices at OCCS are unaffected.

We are accepting new members during the month of May, and welcome you to come out to either our Wed. practices from 7-8pm or our Fri. practices from 8:30-9:30 pm. Keiko Canceled Feb. 2/11

Due to the closure of UTM as a result of the severe weather, kieko is cancelled on Wed. Feb. 2nd. Regular keiko resumes Friday.

 

The Winter 2011 Schedule

The first practice of the new term is 8:30 pm on Friday, January 7th at the OCCS dojo. We welcome back all our returning members for the fall 2010 term. We practice twice a week, on Wednesdays and Fridays. Wed. practices are from 7-9 pm at UTM starting Jan. 12th, and Fri. practices are from 8:30-10:30pm at the OCCS. We look forward to seeing everyone at keiko.

Our New Dojo for Friday Keiko

As of September 2010, our Friday practices will be held from 8:30-10:30 at the Ontario Centre for Classical Sport (OCCS). We are happy to be in a larger space and invite all kendoka to come join us for keiko! Please check the Practice Schedule page for directions.

 

New Membership Fees Effective Fall 2010

All members should note that due to rising costs associated with space rentals, we have had to increase our practice fees by five dollars ($5) per month, or $20 per term. Term fees are due at the beginning of each term (details can be found on the Membership Page).

 

Fall 2010 Schedule Update

Please note the the mid-week practices at UTM are now from 7 to 9 pm. Friday practices at the OCCS dojo are still from 8:30 - 10:30 pm.

Summer 2010 Practice Schedule

We will be practicing twice a week over the spring/summer months (May through August). Our keiko will be on Wednesday evenings from 7-10 pm at the Youshukan dojo. Our Friday keiko will be between 7-10 pm at our usual home in the dance studio at UTM. We look forward to seeing everyone at keiko.

 

Pracice Schedule for April 2010

Please note that due to finals at UTM, we will be practicing on Wednesdays between 7-10 pm and Fridays from 7:30-10:30 pm at the Youshukan dojo. We will start up again at UTM in May. Please check the Practice Schedule page for directions.

 

The Winter 2010 Term (Posted Jan. 2/10)

After a short break for the holidays, we are back to practices effective January 5th. The Practice Times and Locations are as for the Fall term, and are found on the Schedule Page A reminder to all members that term practice fees are due.

 

June is National Kendo Month (Posted May 25/09)

The Canadian Kendo Federation has named June as Natinoal Kendo Month. Check out the website for details about kendo events celebrating our favorite past-time!

 

The 2009 JCCC Junior Tournament (Posted May 25/09)

Sunday, May 24th saw the 2009 edition of the JCCC Junior Tournament. We had a great turnout and showing by all our members who played. Great Job to all! Check out the Tournament review by David Hyashida here.

 

OKF Insurance Waivers

Please note that all MKC membes must have completed an OKF insurance waiver, as well as paying the OKF insurance fee ($20) on a yearly basis. Please check the Membership page for details and forms.

2009 World Championships

The 14th Kendo World Championshpis will be held this year in Brazil. Check out the 14th WKC website, and please support our Team Canada members as they get ready for the WKC! We hope to get another godo keiko with Team Canada in the near future ... check back soon for details as they become available.
