Membership
Who May Join:
Anyone age 8 or above who is interested in learning Kendo, has the physical ability to participate in training and is willing to accept the direction of the club's instructors in matters of etiquette and safety. Completion of a membership form containing a waiver clause is required.
When May I Join:
Beginner classes normally commence in September and January. This is necessary to ensure proper instruction and maintain a safe practice environment. The club does not have the resources to properly instruct and safely supervise many students at varying levels at the same time.
Those with previous experience may join at any time.
The club reserves the right to limit the number of new members joining or defer the acceptance of new members at any time at any time, due to space and safety issues.
Membership Dues:
Please note that effective September 2010, practice fees have increased by $20 per term. This is a reflection of the increased costs associated with space rentals.
Adults: $140/4 months Students/Child: $120/4 months
OKF Insurance Registration:
All Members must be insured by the Ontario Kendo Federatin (OKF) in order to practice. This is a yearly registration, and the current OKF form can be found here (OKF waiver). Also, there is a $20/year cost associated with registration/insurance that is not covered by practice fees. Please provide a completed form and insurance fees to an MKC Director so that you are properly registered and insured.
CKF Membership:
The Canadian Kendo Federation has recently switched to an on-line membership database. All practicing kendoka must register online with the CKF and maintain their own account, including keeping up to date with annual CKF membership fees. Unless you are registered and keep your CKF dues up to date, you will not be allowed to participate in any CKF-sanctioned tournaments or gradings. Please check out the CKF web-site for more information and to register. Please note that while individual members must keep their own accounts current with the CKF, the club itself does ensure that the club on a whole pays it's dojo-specific dues to the CKF on behalf of the club.
How Do I Join:
Visit the club on enrolment day and ask for a membership form, or bring a completed membership form with you. Click here for a copy of the membership form (Adobe Acrobat format). You must enroll in person. Please print and complete the form and bring with you.
